Hide & Seek
Run, running, or ran.. Truth is.. we are all running or have ran from something or to something. It’s a common action that usually happens in some type of fight or flight moment when we simply want or do not want something. These same actions could either be followed by triumph/success or worse.. after making a bad decision or being a part of someone else’s bad decision– we fall into shame, uncertainty, doubt, and even defeat. The next action to follow could resemble something like the desire to hide: the act of concealing, camouflaging, or H.(idden), I.(nsecurities), D.(isguising), E.(xistence).
“Can a man hide himself in hiding places
So I do not see him?” declares the Lord.
“Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?” declares the Lord. I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed. How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart; Which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbor, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal.” Jeremiah 23:24
The warning against these prophets is found in Jeremiah 23:16 on the fact that they gave the thoughts of their own hearts to be divine revelation that were not messages from God, while promising peace and prosperity to sinners which seduced them to false confidence.
Have we became false prophets or our past situations in life- allowing them to take root in our heart and remove our hope? In doing so, have we decided to hide from our initial dreams and aspirations by throwing in the towel and losing hope? Hope is the most practical power in the world. It overcomes discouragement, depression, irritability and anxiety. It gives new life to old jobs, old marriages, old friendships, and old thoughts. It opens the future and invites vision and dreams through planning and prayer. It conquers defeat, shame, vain ambition, and helps one regain confidence in achieving something satisfying in life.
As Jeremiah 51:46 states a little further down in the passage to “not lose hope”. Or in Proverbs 13:12 hope deferred makes the heart sick but a longing fulfilled is a tree of like”.
Be encouraged to refrain from hiding, restore your hope and seek the redeemer who is Christ- “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29-13
