Distracted? "Gnat" today
While minding my business and deciding to finally get off social media to find spiritual motivation to hit the resume button for R.U.N. Guess what pops up ? A gnat-- like all in my face, all in my business- creating a complete distraction. You know where I'm going with this right? Gnats are just like the enemy- they come and bother you when you have good food, reading a good book, sitting under good light. They're bold too!! No invitation needed!! But guess what? They also like messes too- uncleaned dishes, trash etc. Sound familiar? They're like the enemy, yes I said it- the devil! You know he loves to pounce on you when you're down, going through hard times, or simply not feeling it. By relation, a gnat falls in the insect family that includes flies and mosquitoes. Gnats are found anyplace in the world where there is a river or stream because they lay their eggs in watery places. Still sound familiar? The enemy loves weakness, any area he can tempt you -he's on it!! He loves to lay his eggs in your insecurities, doubt, even uncertainties but like I said he's bold so he'll try to lay them in your happiness too! But guess what? Gnat today!! To me, the worse part after viewing a gnat is not knowing where it landed. It finds the perfect place to land and has the nerve to blend in with the environment. Still sounding familiar??? So one may ask how do you find and kill this gnat?? I'm glad you asked. Let me take you to Luke 4 1-13 where Jesus was tempted by the devil. Yes you read me correctly, you see how bold the enemy is, he even tempted Jesus!!! The nerve?!! Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness 2 for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And He ate nothing during those days, and when they had ended, He became hungry. 3 And the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.” 4 And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE.’” 5 And he led Him up and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said to Him, “I will give You all this domain and its glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. 7 “Therefore if You worship before me, it shall all be Yours.” 8 Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD AND SERVE HIM ONLY.’” 9 And he led Him to Jerusalem and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here; 10 for it is written, ‘HE WILL COMMAND HIS ANGELS CONCERNING YOU TO GUARD YOU,’ 11 and, ‘ON their HANDS THEY WILL BEAR YOU UP, SO THAT YOU WILL NOT STRIKE YOUR FOOT AGAINST A STONE.’” 12 And Jesus answered and said to him, “It is said, ‘YOU SHALL NOT PUT THE LORD YOUR GOD TO THE TEST.’” 13 When the devil had finished every temptation, he left Him until an opportune time. In short- here are a few takeaways
Recite Scripture: After all "you are what you eat" Jesus responds to each of the devil's temptations by quoting a passage from Scripture, How can you recite scripture if you do not know what's In the book. You won't, you have to open it! Remind
Jesus took the time to try to help the enemy out by reminding the enemy that he should worship the Lord and serve Him only. Believe- how can you believe if you don't know what to believe? Jesus was confident when He informed the enemy to not put God to test, furthermore "when the devil had finished every temptation, he left =).
Until next time..
